Everyday, in the context of my work, I meet people that are powerless in the face of this disease. People like you and me, who overnight must deal with this reality, using resources that are often inadequate. Alzheimer's disease is often wrongly perceived as a natural phase in the ageing process; however, this is not so. Since Alzheimer's attacks all of a person's spheres, the consequences on this person and his/her family are all the more great; the needs increase, the demands abound; but fortunately there is help.
Still very few treatment options exist for those suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Support and access to services remain the cornerstone of the treatment that aims to improve their quality of life. Since Alzheimer's often affects seniors and people without means, the consequences can be devastating: distress, isolation, depression, etc.
Therefore, it is with pleasure that I accepted to be honorary president of the Memory Walk. This walk, which takes place across the province, is meant to be the Alzheimer Society's main fundraising and awareness event. The funds collected are used to help and support those suffering from Alzheimer's as well as their families.
On May 25th, I invite you to participate in great numbers in this walk, in order to ensure the success and longevity of this event. Do like me and find a little time in your schedule to renew your social involvement vows.
